However, there seems to be an undercurrent of rules and polite things running under normal life, and I’m worried I’ll commit an enormous faux pas.

One example is that I never knew, until this year, that you were supposed to send thank you notes when you received a gift. Is there a good source for all of these rules, like an etiquette book?

The only MAC counter we have here is in Nordstrom and you have to do this one hour application that doesn’t ask anything about my skills as an artist, just dumb “if you saw someone stealing would you;” questions. No, I want to know if proper etiquette demands that both people be invited. Can someone just ask for the person to attend the wedding alone, since they won’t know the boyfriend/girlfriend.

We are planning a very small, simple ceremony at our church for my daughter & her fiance. The groom is VERY shy and would like the wedding to be immediate family & close friends ONLY. They are supposed to send it directly to the university. No deadline was given by the university for the reference letters. And both my referees are very busy people.
