Are humans the only animals to create etiquette standards and practice good manners?

Are humans the only species that practice good manners, and distinguish manners between the polite and the rude. Any other animal species that use some etiquette skills?

Recently some dolphins surrounded a surfer who had been attacked by a shark, and kept the shark off of him until he reached the shore…
If that’s not good manners and politeness…
I don’t know what is…

Well, I don’t know if you would call it “etiquette” or not, but dogs, as pack animals, do have certain behaviors that are accepted by other dogs, and certain behaviors for which one dog will reject or correct another. For instance, young puppies are taught “manners” regarding controlling their bite. When a pup is playing too rough, and bites down too hard, the mother dog may discipline the pup, or other pups in the litter may withdraw and not play with the overly-snappy pup for a little while. Then, when the pup learns to play more gently, not biting down too hard, his gentler behavior is encouraged, because the mother dog and litter mates interact nicely with him again. Probably most or many species have some sort of behavior standards, things that are more accepted or less accepted. Not sure about all species. I just work with a lot of dogs and watch them!

No,no,no, you have it backwards…!!! we, humans are the only species that have no manners whatsoever!!!!…..animals respect, they don’t take advantage of things they don’t suppose to,they keep themselves in their territory and don’t even overeat, they will attack when they are provoked, and they are peaceful when they’re not hungry. And they keep the same partner (some) for life!!! They know what to do and when to do it.
Humans? they will steal, lie, kill, rape, kidnapped, break all laws, invent stuff to destroy, take advantage of everything and everywhere, unfaithful, blame others, etc.etc.etc.etc. many many more to go…….
Now, what was your question?

Yes, for example it is rude for a lion to enter the territory of another lion which he would notice because they mark their territories. Their etiquette standards may be different but they do that in order to be civilized, and just like humans some animals don’t abide by those rules and you get to watch the fights on the discovery channel.

Just exactly are good manners? As mentioned different cultures practice manners that are acceptable to them ,
and impose these good manners so called on others,if they want to stay in the social ladder, of this culture.
Rules are what make up the consortium of so called good manners. Isn’t this autocratic and isn’t this exactly what the young people of the sixties broke away from , so they could just be themselves.? The high class snobbery have rules that would give us simple folk indigestion .
Here is what good manners are.[ oh-law-]-kindness, consideration, understanding, cleanlyness, thoughtfulness.
Also moral philososphy–don’t cause hurt, don’t impose ones personal will on other. Above all be genuine & sincere& honest..Accept people for who they are,and not what you imagine to be proper or impose on them. Most people if not oppressed by autocratic imposition will shine good hearts and intention. People are good by nature. It is the hurt of society upon them that distorts & destroys good people . God created and if God indeed did create us , then we are created good and what is imposed into our brains in society is what distorts the goodness in us.[example ] a child born of a mother in drug taking-ends up distorted to various degrees, and who’s fault is that ? Certainly not the childs fault. Its not God’s fault.. That is rude, that is hurtful, and like the word rude it is distorting the truth to corral and harness the human spirit.,because the word rude is relative in it’s meaning.

Haven’t you ever seen a mother cat bat a kitten around to teach it how to behave? Same with mother dogs, and many other animals. Humans, as with most of our conscious actions have make the act of teaching other how to behave far more complicated than the animals. The idea is the same.

ANY pack animals… all the non-dominant respect the dominant and follow rules set by them.
Dolphins always protect humans from sharks… Ants all respect the queen.
It’s good manners to work for the betterment of the group, sacrificing what the individual may want.
