Etiquette for checking on your rental property?

fgeel asked:

I recently became a first-time landlord—we rented out our 3BR home to a young couple. I am understandably a little nervous about leaving my property in other people’s hands. If I want to check up on my house very occasionally, is that kosher? What would be considered acceptable etiquette? Thanks.

Is it true that it is bad theatre etiquette to audition with a song sung by the part you’re auditioning for?

I’ve heard that you’re not supposed to audition with a song from the musical you’re auditioning for because it’s presumptuous. Is this truly the case? I’m auditioning for Little Shop of Horrors this fall and was planning on singing “Suddenly Seymour” but I won’t if this is considered bad etiquette.

What is the tipping etiquette in these types of restaurants?

Deke asked:

In certain types of restaurants, such as a Subway or a Moe’s, there are usually tip jars/cubes sitting next to the cash register. The person who rings up your order is often the person who made your food for you, as well.

I am the first to admit that maybe I’m naïve, but I thought tipping was reserved for people who serve you while sitting at a table.

Is there an expected etiquette for the types of restaurants I’m describing?

I just started a job and it’s really not what I expected. I am already in the process of looking for something else, but am just wondering what is the normal etiquette here. Do you still need to give a 2 week notice even if you’ve been there for less than 2 weeks?

Is it right etiquette to request uneaten food, which you ordered in restaurant, to be packed and taken home?

(A² + B²) asked:

We 5 friends were supposed to meet at a restaurant and have lunch there. But 2 of them could not make it, but we had already placed orders on their behalf. So we 3 ate our food.

Now is it right etiquette if we request restaurant to get the leftover food to be packed so that we could take it home. After all, food for 2 people is a good quantity and we also paid for it.

What would you do in such a situation?

I’m writing an article on climbing etiquette and I want you guys to contribute. For instance, one thing that I find very impolite is beta spitters while your climbing. Let me fall or come down off the rock on my own, then we can dicuss… Or when you’re on other peoples property, don’t leave things like cigarette butts. So leave me some of your ideas! Thanks!

What are some good examples of American etiquette being different than other coutries?

I was once told It is improper to ask for salt or pepper in a different country as it is an insult to the cook (I think it was South America somewhere). There is none placed on the dinner table as the food is seasoned in the kitchen.

Do you know of any other specific examples of etiquette that is different than ours that also make sense?
The examples do not have to be solely food oriented either.
