What is the proper etiquette for choosing a godmother to your child?

My sister chose her husband’s sister as Godmother over me, supposedly because my sister is Godmother to one of their two kids and that’s usually the way it’s done. Is there any truth to this in traditional etiquette customs or is that bull? My sister knows I adore my little baby niece and she sees that I take great care of her when I go visit/help out every week or almost, and I can’t help but feel hurt by her decision.
