Is it practical to ask those who would be in your bridal party to wear the same color instead of same dresses?

I am planning a wedding for july and I want it to be very low maintenance and simple but meaningful. I have too many friends who I want to stand with me. If I didn’t the bridal party would be too big and it’s going to be a small simple production. Plus, we really don’t have time to fuss over dresses and fittings and stuff. Is it tacky to have all my friends who would have been bridesmaids to wear black and accesorize identically? My sister and best friend, however, will have different dresses. Please help…
